I’m back!
Hello my loves!
I guess for many of you, I never really went anywhere because I’ve tried to stay connected in small ways through the years. For the last five, I’ve had a slow and gentle resurgence after many years of focusing on motherhood. I’ve been making records independently and doing live performances here and there, mostly on the east coast. I wrote and performed a theatre show called “Atlantic Blue” that ran for three summers in my hometown of Charlottetown, PEI, Canada (Epekwitk, Turtle Island). It’s been wonderful, singing for family and friends and whoever happened to wander into the venue. I even picked up a few awards which was lovely, reminding me that I should keep going, that I still had good things to offer.
Over the course of the last few years, I have been working on a project that is the culmination of everything I have learned so far about life, music, writing and rising. My first book! It’s called Song of the Sparrow, and it will be hatching in the spring, March 14th, 2023 with HarperCollins. You can even pre-order it and it’s on treebook, ebook and audiobook! I am so excited, nervous and ready to share the story about my life in music, and the way songs keeps saving me. I also recorded an album to accompany the book, which will come out on Turtlemusik on March 31! Some old songs, some new, produced by the incredible Daniel Ledwell, it will be available on all streaming services.
As a reemerging artist, I have surfaced to find the music business has changed profoundly since I began back in 1995 when I signed my publishing deal with Sony Music Publishing Canada, and my record deal with the Nettwerk Music Group. I made my first record in 1996. These were the days before downloading. Now, I am learning to navigate these waters and I have a brilliant team that is helping me get the book and album into the world. I will also be spreading my wings and doing speaking tours (Transatlantic) so we can go even deeper into the messages I’m inspired to share.
I am envisioning that over the next few years, I will spend my time speaking, reading and singing for you all over the world. I can’t wait to share this project. My dream is that it will remind us all, even when it feels like the darkness is closing in, that life is still a beautiful and miraculous experience.
A HUGE shout out to Patricia Parkinson for this amazing website revamp, and for all the care and love she put into this outstanding gift.
I hope you enjoy all the vintage content as well as the fresh music and other happenings that we have for you here. A massive thanks to my management and publicity team in Canada and UK (Jones &Co, Sinclaire Creative Solutions, What’s the Story, Sounds Just Fine), to the people at Auteur Research, HarperCollins, Transatlantic Agency, Sony Music Publishing Canada, Warner Music Distribution, Turtlemusik, my new online support team and everyone who worked on and who is working to launch the Song of the Sparrow. I am so beyond grateful.
To the supporting and funding bodies of Factor Canada, Canada Council of the Arts, Music PEI, Innovation PEI, Unison Fund, The Musician’s Union, and private patrons who support and sponsor the arts, there are no words of thanks deep enough. I’d have to sing them.
Also, a massive thank you to my beautiful daughters and their fathers, who support me to live my dreams fully. My parents and my siblings couldn’t be more loving and supportive, especially with the memoir, which also chronicles their lives. Thank you for letting me tell our story.
Let’s have some fun, shall we? Flying in soon to a town near you! Keep an eye on my calendar (link) and please sign up for my mailing list if you’d like more updates. Also, go ahead and follow on various social media platforms if you’re inclined and if you want to pre-order the book, well that would be amazing!
How I’ve missed you!
All my love, Tara
